Freediving helps to know yourself better
Do you know what is Mamalian Dive Reflex? The first issue about freediving
One of the concepts that we consider more important for our freediving students at Freedive l'Estartit is how the Mamalian Dive Reflex works. Thanks to this reflex our body gets protected against the pressure gained at depth, and at the same time switches into a maximum energy saving mode. Both, the saved energy and the self protection mode are vital to increase the safety while freediving, and it is the reason why we do that kind of "experiment" during our lessons, so our students can understand how it works, how to make it happen and feel it for the first time.
For example, last weekend one of our students of the SSI Level 1 course gets his heart rate down from 96 to 38 beats per minute at his first shot.
A freediving course is not only about learning a new sport, it's about getting to know yourself a little better.
